Layered Glass Landscape Series
These colorful, multilayered landscapes are created in stages. I arrange colored sheet glass, glass wafers, powders and frit into a custom landscape composition, then fire it at 1450 F. This process is repeated several times to build visual depth. I often paint fine details with glass enamel before a final firing. Because each 24-hour firing cycle requires slow heating, peaking, annealing, and cooing, a single piece takes several days to complete.
Reactive Glass Landscape Series
These beautiful and fascinating landscapes are created by harnessing the chemical reactions of specific glass types. Each glass color has a unique composition, containing elements such as lead, copper, sulphur and selenium. When melted together in a kiln, the minerals and metals in the glass interact, producing unique color halos, lines and gradients. Additional elements, such as metal foils, glass enamels and glass frits, are added in subsequent firings to create detail and interest.
Glass Enamel Landscape Series
These pieces are made by using glass enamels, powders and frits on one layer of clear glass. By adding layers of these elements and firing multiple times, rich textures and a sense of depth are created . I often limit the color palette on these pieces to draw attention to the intricate patterns and textures.
